Avana is a model I shot a few times for several different projects I was working on at the time in New Mexico and is featured in several pieces of my artwork. She is a native of Cuba and a very beautiful young lady. In the middle of one segment, using a beauty dish for lighting, the look in Avana's eyes caused me to think about "The Afghan Girl", a classic photograph by the legendary photojournalist/photographer, Steve McCurry. I had an old curtain laying in my box of backdrops and I draped it over the young model and this is the result. The background is from a shell cave in the Palace Vizcaya Gardens in Miami captured in 2013 when I created the artwork.
